Phillip Island – Day Trip

This Autumn heatwave has been really nice, especially coming down from the tropics. We came up with the idea of heading down to Phillip Island for a random day. It is around 2 hours 20 minutes one way, which makes it as close as Litchfield is to Darwin. Definitely worth a swim in the ocean!

I am really loving being able to get back in the surf again. I have really missed the waves, and the freedom not to worry about crocodiles.

We went down there and headed to the forest caves, Claire and Trish had a look while I had a swim. We then went onto the nobbies, before having a picnic and checking out the penguin parade on the way home.

Claire loves the penguin parade more than anything. I have now seen it 3 times in the past 3 years.

And I’m sure, we will be there again in 2016… happy wife, happy life

Starting to trust the car again after all the trouble we have had… photo taken after Claire had decided to drive home 🙂

Paradise Valley – Location

Paradise Valley near Licola is a farm that also serves as a campground. Our family (plus a few more) have gone there every easter since before I was born. I was first there at 3 months old, and I’ve only missed a couple since. It has showers, a creek to swim in, daily rubbish collection, and it allows dogs. Fireplaces are welcome. We regularly do canoe trips down there, I see a lot of people fishing but they rarely catch anything.

Email me if you want to find it… I don’t know where it is exactly but I know how to drive there!

Phillip Island land based

Thought I would include this one as I did some land based fishing with the old man when I was down for a holiday. Not a lot to report, got a grass whiting and a few other bites, but the wind basically made it impossible to fish two days in a row the sand was pelting into us and we had to call it early. Still nice to get one, nice part of Victoria.

Got:
No keepers

Story of the trip:
Having to purchase a *shudder* fishing license

Boat problems:
Was a land based trip

Paradise Valley 2014

Paradise Valley again this year, the last one that the Gell’s will own. We got our canoeing trip it, it was freezing, I have become accustomed to the NT weather faster than I want to admit.

There isn’t much to say about it, it is always great fun.

Those canoe trips always take it out of me!

Highpants Festival in Dargo

I was down in Victoria for New Years Eve and I was invited along to a camping festival to celebrate the new year. It is run by some friends on mine from high school. It is pretty difficult to describe to people who haven’t been there, it is camping, loud music and partying, very bright colours, silly costumes (just for the sake of it). I won’t post anything too detailed as I suppose some people may not want their ridiculous attire on the internet, so just a few snaps: the campsite; and a group of us playing in the river:

Took the old man’s Pajero complete with car fridge. Definitely a step up from my rig, but a bit out of price range at the moment!

These festivals have been running for a few years, usually on private property and invite only (like this year). This is the second one that I have managed to get to – but hopefully that will change when I move to Victoria!
